What day is it? FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!
Hey, fandom! It's Free Comic Book Day today!
Go to almost any comic book store today, and they will hand you an absolutely free comic book. No, really. Don't know where your local participating store is? Click here.
I heartily suggest you go. I mean, come on! Free fannish stuff! It's a holiday tailor made for our people.
My personal favorite female-friendly comics currently coming out include...
Runaways - Awesome plot, female led, canon gay and trans and currently written by Joss Whedon! ROCK. Also, safe for kids over 13! Available in cheap full color trades roughly the same size as manga volumes.
Birds of Prey - The old reliable, and still just as awesome as ever. Batgirl grew up to be the machiavellian mastermind of the DCU, pwns Batman on a regular basis, and leads her own female superteam from her shadowy lair! You know you want it.
Musashi #9 - Hard to find, but made of awesome. #9 is a quiet, stoic, sardonic, ruthless androgynous secret agent who always, always wins. Oh, and did I mention that #9 is female and in her late teens? Not that most of the people she rescues know that, which never fails to amuse her. She does not do sobby angst. She does not have physical appearance drama. She's about as stereotypically girly as your average female tiger, and just as lethally fascinating.

And incidently, if you're onboard with Girl-Wonder.org, maybe you want to join in for Celebrate Free Comic Book Day With Girl Wonder. Just print a flyer to tape up at your local store, or tell people about the site, or even make a blog post like this one, celebrating Free Comic Book Day *and* Girl Wonder!
